Past Jewels Gifted To The Queen

What on earth do you get The Queen who has everything for a birthday as important as this one? A bejewelled birthday present never hurts as her gifts in the past have shown.

Most of what The Queen receives remains private, but there are a few jewels from her vault that can be identified as gifts.

We wonder what she will receive this year for such a momentous occasion? Surely some sparkling goodies await.

Cartier Tiara given to The Queen on her 18th birthday

The Cartier Halo Tiara, pictured above was made by Cartier in 1936 and purchased by the Duke of York (later King George VI) for his wife the Duchess of York (later Queen Elizabeth). The tiara is formed as a band of 16 graduated scrolls set with 739 brilliants and 149 baton diamonds. The tiara was presented to Princess Elizabeth (now The Queen) by her mother on the occasion of her 18th birthday. The year Princess Elizabeth turned 21, her birthday coincided with a trip to Africa, where she picked up the South African Necklace which was later altered to include a bracelet and still what The Queen considers “her best diamonds”. The Flame Lily Brooch was another beautiful piece she acquired on her trip. Her parents gifted her with the Greville Ivy Leaf Brooches and The Diplomatic Corps gave her a beautiful pair of floral diamond earrings.
